After handing out Halloween candy to exciting kids, our thoughts now turn to Thanksgiving, Christmas and the new year. Yep, it’s time to start thinking about what 2018 holds for businesses, especially in terms of cloud computing.
Continue reading to get a sneak peek at three exciting cloud computing trends to expect in the coming year.
1. More cloud storage space
Cisco predicted that by 2017 there would be 600 EB (exabytes) capacity of data globally. If you think that’s a lot of data, just wait until 2018. This number could reach a whopping 1.1 ZB (zettabytes)!
Yes, the global storage capacity could virtually double in a year.
This means that more businesses will take advantage of all of this available space to increase their own storage capacities. The increase in storage available will also likely reduce the cost to consumers.
2. Emergence of the IoE
While the Internet of Things (IoT) involves artificial intelligence to connect high-tech devices in our world online, the Internet of Everything (IoE) involves machine-to-machine communication to allow humans to connect with the components of their environment at a much deeper level. This evolution will allow humans to communicate with even more ease.
For example, Google is set to release a headset called “Pixel Buds” that will allow for the real-time translation of 40 different languages and relay this translation to the user.
Just image the implications this technology will have on a global scale!
3. Higher-quality internet and the emergence of 5G
Expanded storage space isn’t the only thing expected to grow in 2018—we’re also likely to see higher-quality and faster internet connections. As connections become faster, expect to see mobile speeds to increase from the 4G LTE most of us experience now to a full 5G network.
