A €1 million ($1.3 million) deal between Sigfox player VT Networks (an IoT network operating across 32 countries) and Dunraven Systems (an ultrasonic home heating fuel tank monitoring company) will soon lead to over 250,000 Irish fuel tanks to be connected to the internet of things.
Internet of things technology has allowed this venture to come in at a low cost while connecting the devices directly to the cloud. Better yet, the home heating fuel tanks use low power (relying on a single battery for 10+ years), and the tanks operate with only minimal information.
The deal will allow these fuel tanks the ability for automatic connection to the cloud. The connection will work to manage refueling, which will both reduce the overall operating costs for the fuel tanks and the number of callouts when winter weather hits.
According to Will Ferguson, co-founder of VT Networks, the partnership with Dunraven began over a year ago. He explains, “The company sells all over the world and devices will be deployed globally, taking advantage of the global nature of Sigfox.”
