We live in a fast-paced world that values instant gratification—both in and outside of our professions. Because of this, advancing technologies are becoming even more important.
One thing IT departments are starting to adopt is something called “edge computing.” Edge computing is a data-centered process that gets data where it needs to be in a fast and secure manner. Not only is this improving the cloud computing experience for clients, but it’s also becoming an advantage for companies.
Shifting to the Edge
Three dynamics are driving this change:
- the rapid pace at which businesses are growing,
- the explosion of the Internet of Things (IoT), and
- the evolution of users.
IoT is expanding rapidly—a rumored 50 billion “things” will have internet connectivity by the year 2020—and edge computing provides both lower managing costs and faster analysis than previous means.
