There’s no denying that social media has taken the world by storm and has even found a beneficial place within many businesses. As Business Tech writes:
With social media, many businesses grow, profit margins hit astronomical figures and there is a great relationship between business entities and their customers. However, there are a few disadvantages or downsides to social media.
When it comes to incorporating social media into your business, there are several things you should avoid at all costs. Here are 3 of them:
- Using human tragedy
We’ve all seen it: a tragedy strikes and people flock to social media to comment about it. Your business should avoid using such an event to your advantage, but rather stand in solidarity and offer your sympathy. If your customers get the idea that your sympathy is a façade, you could very well lose their trust and business.
- Inappropriate posts
Besides selling your product/service, the ultimate goal of a business is to become an authority or fixture in your given industry. After you’ve worked hard enough to achieve this goal, don’t waste all of your hard work by posting inappropriate information. This includes posts suggesting:
- Violence
- Profanity
- Chaos
- Nudity
- Choosing a side in an argument
If people on your social media are having a heated discussion on a given topic, you should try to remain as neutral as possible. You can get away with small amounts of support on both sides, but you should avoid throwing your hat in with one side over the other.
Social media has become an important part of the modern business’s strategy. Don’t let it get the best of you!
